Does My Business Need a Threads Account?

Emerging from its parent company, Meta, Threads is a new app that has been developed as a companion to Twitter. Mostly ignoring the picture posting aspect of Instagram, Threads primarily focuses on private messaging and the communication between those you consider “close friends.” The setup is very similar to the idea of Twitter, so you can post and repost anything the people that you follow are posting as well. The main difference between this app and Instagram is that you don’t need to post pictures or videos. In other words, it focuses less on graphics and more on text. In this article, we’ll discuss whether your business needs a Threads account and more.

What Is Connected to Threads?

The Meta group of companies oversees many apps, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. This new app is one of them! While all these platforms exist underneath Meta’s name, people use them very differently.

Why Should You Use Meta for Business?

Meta is a very widely-known company and used to be referred to as Facebook. They have built themselves a large reputation for personal use throughout all of the services that they provide. However, they are especially helpful to businesses of all kinds through Meta for Business. This allows businesses access to a much larger customer base and following just due to the number of people using these sites. This also leads to using more targeted advertising to get more people engaging with your content, store, or business. There are also specific profiles that you can use that distinguish you as a business and allow you features that may not come accessible to generic personal profiles.

How Threads Differs From Twitter

Twitter as we all know is a viral app that took off in the mid to late 2000s designed to blog or create “tweets” allowing you to communicate with a mass audience. You can share, repost, like, anything you’d like on this site. You can say anything and reach as many people as you like, not only just people that follow you but anyone that reposts or likes what you “tweeted” can allow others to see what you said. The more that people like or “retweet” your posts, the more people will see it, allowing you to gain more popularity. Ideally, while you can repost or upload pictures and videos, Twitter primarily focuses on using text to get your message across.

On the other hand, Threads is more private. You can limit your audience to certain friends or people whom you grant access to. This allows for much more private communication and sharing between you and those you consider your close friends. While sometimes you may want to connect with millions of people or share something that would be cool to be reposted and seen by many, sometimes you would like to share something and connect with specific friends and mutuals. In comparison to Twitter, you can also share videos, links, posts, and up to 500 words on each post you create on Threads. This allows you to share a bigger message or just a larger idea over one post, instead of creating many.

Why Use Threads

One of the most important things you can do for your business is to market it and be present on social media. In this day and age, we are all present on social media or have some sort of following, whether that is millions or just your closest friends. However, if you are a business, it is essential for you to be constantly online or producing content. In order for you or your business to grow, it is crucial you maintain engagement and maintain relevance.

If you are considering downloading Threads, odds are you are already active on other social media platforms. They may even be platforms housed under Meta’s umbrella. If you already have an Instagram account, then creating your profile is fairly easy. To create this account, all you have to do is connect your preexisting Instagram account to the Threads app. When you do this, everyone you are currently following will appear. Here, you can pick and choose who you would like to continue following on this application as well. This also means that anyone who currently follows your Instagram will be able to view your Threads profile once they make an account.

In less than a week, Threads gained 100 million users. However, since this is such a new product, it is hard to tell whether it will be worth a business’ time to dedicate hours to creating content for another social media platform. Since this app is housed under Meta, specifically Instagram itself, it wasn’t shocking that a lot of users and creators immediately started gaining a following on this application as well.

Pros of Threads

Over the years, we have seen Meta use their technology and resources to create a solid platform that allows users to get a well-rounded feed. When you download Threads, you gain access to many more things that may interest you. You also gain access to fewer generic posts that you may not care about. On many apps you are overloaded with so much different content at once, most of which you may not care much about, that you get overwhelmed or lose interest for a while. You also have the ability to direct what you say to a specific group of people or consumers that are more likely to engage and interact with your posts. Finally, you can hide words, meaning you will not see them on your page or your feed, just like the parent company, Instagram.

Cons of Threads

Since Threads is such a new app, there are still millions of people who have no clue it exists. While it is growing, it can’t compete with the market share of Twitter.  One of the biggest downfalls to using Threads is that the main motivation for any business to create an account on social media platforms is marketing. Meta has stated that they do not plan on allowing marketing or advertisement space on this site anytime soon. So, while you may be able to download and create an account, you are not currently able to purchase advertising space. While you cannot purchase space, your account can still participate in organic marketing.

One of the largest problems that come from this site, is that there is no web access to this platform. In order to gain access to Threads, you must download the app and connect your Instagram to it. While you can access Instagram online, this is a feature that Threads doesn’t have just yet.
