Job Description

We’re looking for a talented Managing Editor to lead our Content Department and oversee a variety of different types of writing across multiple platforms. You will be reporting to the Chief Content Officer and will supervise our department of editors and writers. A successful Managing Editor combines the creativity of a writer with the practical focus of an Operations Manager. While writing and editing content for our company and clients, you will also be expected to run a department of writers that consistently produce high-quality work in a timely manner.

  • Train, manage, and provide feedback to our team of editors, writers, and interns
  • Collaborate with our Chief Content Officer to determine issues, content, and topics
  • Coordinate meetings
  • Plan and approve assignments for writers and editors
  • Control schedules and enforce deadlines 
  • Oversee proofreading procedures and edit copy when necessary
  • Assist in evaluating finalized copy for compliance with policies, style, and tone
  • Post articles across a variety of platforms using guest post software
  • Create articles, social media content, longform content, and rewrites as necessary
  • Contribute to an ongoing conversation of improving and upgrading our systems and processes
  • Host regular meetings with vendors
  • Adhere to SEO Design Chicago’s policies and best practices at all times
  • Software management

Skills and Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to motivate a team and foster teamwork
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and Google Suite
  • Highly motivated and target driven
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Openness to feedback
  • Experience as an editor or other relevant role
  • Exceptional ability in copywriting and editing
  • Proficiency in English
  • Working knowledge of online platforms like WordPress and SEO concepts
  • Abilities in planning and coordinating people and operations
  • Reliability and efficiency
  • Attention to detail
  • BA in English, Journalism, or related field
